Genuine BMW parts or good quality aftermarket ?

Here at Grants of Wellington we recognise that you have choice when it comes to parts and the quality of the parts that we can or should fit to your vehicle.

A lot of garages claim that they fit quality parts, but do they?

We know we are that bit different from most other garages, because we are quite fussy with the brands of parts that we use – therefore we only fit :

It isn’t always as clear cut as we would like.

So our rule of thumb is this – where there is a good quality brand that is a non-genuine part and we have tried and tested those parts, then we will use that instead of BMW genuine parts to keep our repair prices reasonable.

Where there is no alternative part, we will of course use genuine BMW parts – in fact we do get daily deliveries from BMW for these parts.

You may of course have a preference to using only BMW genuine parts, and we can adhere to your wishes for any service or repair work we undertake – just let us know.

A good example of genuine vs non-genuine would be with the 2009-2017 BMW 5-series.

This particular vehicle suffers with water getting into the headlights which steams up the lens and damages the electrics. On the standard cars the BMW headlight is £700 and made by Hella.  The same Hella headlight without the BMW branding is £400 so we offer the choice between the two.

In certain high spec BMW models the headlight is only available from BMW so it has to be genuine.

Finally for the circuit board that is damaged by the water there is not a good quality alternative – either very cheap or BMW genuine – in this instance we use BMW  genuine parts that will cost more money but will not cause further issues in the future.
